Mauricio Travesí Salgarolo was
born on July 6th, 1956 in Mexico City. When he was still a
child, his family moved to Europe where Salgarolo lived for
a couple of years. During that time his mother, Mary
Travesí, taught him to appreciate the art of painting
through the works of the great classic and modern
painters. Something that impressed young
Salgarolo tremendously on his visits to European museums
was the wonderful precision with which many artists were
able to copy the classics. (This precision can be readily
seen today in Salgarolo’s own paintings.)
The experience awoke Salgarolo’s exuberant natural
creativity, so his mother -—an artist who painted
daily— further guided him with brushes and canvases
as well as fundamental principals on composition,
proportion and color. It can be said, however, that
Salgarolo is self-taught since he never took any painting
lessons, other than his mother’s advice and
direction. Thus, there are some who consider that
Salgarolo’s work does not belong to any artistic
current in particular, while others think he lacks
technique due to his very untraditional use of oils.
Nonetheless, his work never fails to capture the eyes and
imagination of the viewer, and has earned Salgarolo various
awards and distinctions.
In terms of subject matter, Salgarolo finds expression in a
combination of reality and his own imagery. He follows this
Daliesque path of sorts without a predefined course.
Occasionally, mother and son have merged their paintings
into a new artistic concept.
Salgarolo currently lives in
Flower Mound, Texas with his wife and family, where he
continues to develop and grow as a unique and very
exceptional artist.
